Summary note
Neat copy of a treatise on the readings of the Qurʼān, in two parts. The copy becomes more dense toward the end of each juzʼ.

Title from title page (fol. 1a). The same title appears in the colophon of Juzʼ 1 (fol. 134a).
Physical description: 27 to 31 lines per page. Written in small naskh in black ink with use of red. Yāʼ for alif maqṣūrah ; final yāʼ dotted. Thick dark cream paper, glossy, with laid and chain lines visible. Chart of the readings of the Qurʼān on fol. 1a. Modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals (faulty). Stained with water.
Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the upper cover: "al-Qirāʼāt 2". Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the pastedown of the upper cover: "Ḥ 990".
Origin: According to colophons of Juzʼ 1 and 2, copied by Aḥmad ibn Ismāʻīl ibn al-ʻImād al-Dimashqī ... al-Shāfiʻī ... al-Ashʻarī ... Juzʼ 1 was completed on 15 Ṣafar 930 [Dec. 24, 1523] (fol. 134a, followed by two lines of poetry) ; juzʼ 2 on 26(?) Rabīʻ al-Awwal 930 [Feb. 2, 1524] (fol. 258b).
Incipit: الحمد لله الذي انزل القرآن كلامه ويسره وسهل نشره لمن رامه وقدره ... وبعد فان الانسان لا يشرف الا بما يعرف ولا يفضل الا بما يعقل
Explicit: واجنحته الصدق ومواقيته الاسحار واسبابه الصلوة على النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم اللهم صلى الله على سيدنا محمد وعلى سيدنا محمد كما صليت على ابراهيم وعلى ال ابراهين انك حميد مجيد وهذا اخر كتاب النشر في القرات العشرو الحمد لله وحده

Quarter bound in orange marbled paper and dark brown leather. Gilt tooling on spine. Orange paper pastedown and free endpaper.
