The plates are a reproduction of a pictorial work circulated in Hunan Province with the purpose of enflaming hatred against foreigners and the Christian religion. The authorship is attributed to Zhou Han, a native of Ningxiang. The woodblocks were obtained from the firm of Deng Maohua, printers in Changsha.
