Commentary completed on 27 Dhū al-Qaʻdah 758 [Nov. 1357] (see end of text, fol. 176b) on Tanqīḥ al-uṣūl by ʻUbayd Allāh ibn Masʻūd al-Maḥbūbī (d. 747/1346), on uṣūl al-fiqh.

Title from preamble (fol. 2a, l. 5).
27 lines per page. Written in medium large taʻlīq in black ink with use of red for overlining and the word "qawluh". Red teardrop text-stops, often in groups of three. Thin beige paper, glossy, with a few chain lines visible. Marginal and interlinear annotations apparently by the same hand as the main text. Two lines of poetry in Arabic and inscriptions on fol. (i)a. Table of contents on fol. (i)b. Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the upper cover: "Uṣūl thānī 27". Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the pastedown of the upper cover: "Ḥāʼ 1210". Tear on last fol. and free endpaper.
Copy completed in Ṣafar 877 (sabʻīn overwritten and repeated on the margin) [July-Aug. 1472] in Edirne(?), in the Madrasat al-Jāmiʻ al-sharīf by Muḥammad ibn Ṭayyib ibn Khiḍr (colophon, fol. 176b).
Incipit: الحمد لله الذي احكم بكتابه اصول الشريعة ... وبعد فان علم الاصول الجامع بين المعقول والمنقول النافع فى الوصول الى مدارك المحصول ... [2أ] ... قوله حامدا حال من المستكن فى متعلق الباء اى باسم الله ابتدى الكتاب حامدا
Explicit: على لفظ وجود العصمة عصمنا الله بعونه الكريم عن اتباع الهوى ووفقنا بلطفه العميم لسلوك طريق الهدى انه ولى العصمة والتوفيق ومنه الهداية الى سواء الطريق وقد اتفق ... يوم الاثنين التاسع والعشرين من شهر ذى القعدة سنه ثمان وخمسين وسبعمايه ... والحمد لله على نعمه العطام ... والصلوة زالسلام على نبيه محمد واله واصحابه البرره الكرام وله الفضل والمنه على تمام هذا الانعام
Binding note
Dark brown leather over paper pasteboards for upper and lower covers, with a central blind stamped mandorla. Green cloth on envelope flap. Spine and fore-edge flap repaired. Apple green dyed paper pastedowns and free-endpaper (the verso of the later left undyed).

Several ownership statements on fol. 1a, mostly erased (the date 1054 H. still visible), the only two extant in the name of Muḥammad ʻUbayd Allāh Mūsá Zāde, dated [1]169 H. and of Muḥammad ʻAlī Ibn Ibrāhīm ...?, dated [1]279 H. Seal on fol. 177b. Acquired from Abraham Shalom Yahuda, 1942.
